Karen Groner, the owner designer
of Grownbeans, is a native New Yorker.
Studying painting at the high school of
Music and Art and Hunter College, visiting
museums, attending theater and dance
performances and finally graduating from
Parson’s School of Design with a degree in
fashion design in 1976 all have contributed to the
Grownbeans marriage of art and costume into fashion for women. Karen and Grownbeans have followed in
the tradition of a design atelier, with Karen at the helm working directly with shops and individuals looking for that unique piece.

She and her staff of six work
behind the “showroom” storefront at
97 Crosby Street in New York’s SoHo.
After graduating from Parsons and
several years working with 7th Avenue
designers, Karen grew Grownbeans
from three jackets sold at Bendels to a
collection of suede, leather, shearlings, and furs
shown at tradeshows in New York and Paris sold across the country and internationally. Now we add our own boutique at 97 Crosby Street and hope to continue for the next thirty years defining made in
New York in every way.
